Dance and music, love and fiend
Teacher: Mareike Greb
18 – 21 August 2016
C.E.U.B. – Bertinoro – Italy
This course is open for dancers and for musicians, no matter if they’re professional, student or dilettante in the best sense of the word.
Through all the ages, except of ours, people danced and made music. It was beside other qualities, obligatory and fun. Now dancers and musicians are parted and we have a gap in our understanding on both sides.
Dance and music are two different worlds and yet they belong together, neither does one serve the other, nor does one only exist for the other; rather they communicate with each other. The dance adds yet another voice to the music through the movement and the rhythm, sometimes amplifying it, at other times providing counterpoint, contrast, or harmony. Musician and dancer are engaged in a conversation.
Let us have a look on the dances through the ages and become a moving voice.
We will use sources from the 15th to the 18th century, Italy, France, Burgundy
The dancebook of Marguerite d’Autriche,
the dances of Domenico da Piacenza,
